Hello folks!

Woof! |
The opening ceremony consisted mainly of cheese (not the edible cheese!), although I did enjoy watching the dancing Tunnock's Teacakes, woof!

Taking a slightly different route to their usual evening prance, they led the 71 Commonwealth teams around the stadium, mildly oblivious to the extreme noise and big, bright lights.

Woof, however, earlier today, I was having a good old moan to Clyde, the Commonwealth Games Mascot.
Clyde, I have a problem! |
Yes, Scotties are actually called Scottish terriers, and these are the Glasgow games, but they're not the only breeds from bonnie Scotland, are they?
The people who organised this COMPLETELY forgot to include the:
Westies,
Border collies,
Deerhounds,
Rough collies,
Border terriers,
Cairn terriers,
Bearded collies,
Skye terriers,
Bloodhounds,
Smooth collies,
GOLDEN RETRIEVERS (originally fae up here!),
Blue paul terriers,
Sporting Lucas terriers,
Golden setters,
Dandie Dinmont terriers,
Paisley terriers,
Scotch collies,
Sleuthhounds,
AND...

Yoooohooooo? |
Personally, I think some better planning could have been done here. Whine.
Although, the Scotties were fab, and I am really enjoying the sports so far!

*PLEASE NOTE, we have absolutely nothing against any scotties, this post is only a bit of fun. Like we mentioned already, we thought the dogs in the ceremony were brilliant, and that the ceremony was fun and interesting, even if it was a tad cheesy. I hope we haven't upset anydoggy, because we still love Scottie dogs!*

ReplyDeleteOMD-ness I totally agrees wi' ye hen!!! I didn'ae bother wi' a' thon prancing cheesy-stuffs; came in just at start of the team march and it was braw...if a tad lang in the clock (mind you, ken, thon cossies for the 2-legger Scotties doesn'ae exactly ring ma bead...)
I have had a totally vegetable day with both the internet streaming gymnastics and the telly tuned to triathlons... oh dear; this is going to be annoying cuz now the sun is shining!!!!!!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
OMD All of the Scottish Terriers of Blogville are All a Twitter about their Cussins all PAWrading and strutting their stuffs. We think it is FABULOUS. 41 of them !!! WOW !!!
ReplyDeleteWe are just LOVING the dynamic decorated dolphins !! THANKS.... hope we get to see them ALL.
Pippa what an absolutely fabulous post!! We loved the photos and commentary!! Bravo and the list of native Scottish pups.
ReplyDeleteOf course mom is all joyous over the Dolphins.
Hugs madi your bfff
How dare they not include Shelties!!!!!! My Mom is a nut about Dolphins too! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
ReplyDeleteScotties 1, Shelties 0 ... what's up with that ?? oh well, hats off to the Scotties though for representing & being good doggies!!
ReplyDeleteTotally enjoying your Dolphin adventures though, thanks for showing us Pippa!!
Like many others, we too thought the Scotties were the stars of the show, but Pippa you do make a very good point about all the other Scottish breeds which were sadly overlooked. I am sure that my predecessor Hamish the Westie would have something to say about the matter, although he would perhaps have been pleased to learn that the Scottie leading out the Scotland team was also called Hamish.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
Enjoy the games Pippa. The Scotties sure stole the opening ceremony. They were the real stars.
ReplyDeleteHave a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
Well Pippa, we were up at Sparrow's Fart (Before the sun) and enjoyed the Ceremony. We're a bit tired of a cute kid taking you through the history of a country...so we enjoyed the fast-paced colourful show! The scotties were just the icing on the cake (Tunnock's?). (We did leave during part of it, because we HAD to have our morning walk.) So we didn't find it cheesy at all. Maybe they should have run through those breeds when they were doing the inventions.....thanks. We didn't know all of those were from Scotland.
ReplyDeleteThe response here in Oz has been very positive....commentators visiting kilt shops and stuff.
Let's hope that gorgeous weather holds for the duration.
(Oh, and we love your dolphins, too.)
they did some to completely forget we 'other' scottish breeds didn't they. we wonder if the scotties has little ear plugs in their ears so they didn't hear all the noise :)
ReplyDeleteThat sure looks like fun Pippa!
ReplyDeleteCool for the Scotties, did not know all those breeds were from there! Love seeing the dolphins

OK now calm down, quit all that yelling, we were grinning big time, Bites keep yelling "Susie Thats Us", anywho, we are liking the painted Dolphins.
ReplyDeleteThe Mad Scots
Clearly an oversight on the organizers part to miss so many dogs. We love the dolphins, thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI think that is outrageous that they didn't include Shelties, but nice they did think about including doggies.
ReplyDeleteWe love the dolphins and are so happy to have dogs as a focal point for any reason!

Pippa, I thinks Scotties have taken over the WORLD!!! Yups, that's what I thinks!! You're right, I thinks they should spread the wealth around and let some of the other pawsome breeds own the spotlight for a while! Like...SHELTIES!!!! Just sayin'...
ReplyDeleteI loves those dolphins!! Lottie is my fav!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
I was just thinking how much I would have liked to watch all the Scotties in the ceremony. Then I read your list and have to agree - they should have added some of those other breeds too!
ReplyDeleteI love the dolphin pictures.
Very cool that the Scotties stole the show... but too bad they didn't have some Shelties there too!! Love seeing more of the dolphins!
ReplyDeleteSo they had one for each nation participating in the games, right? I've just watched the proceedings online and I was superbly impressed. I love how the Scotties really stole the show and became the buzz, even in social media sites. Anyway, I expected that Scotland has lots of doggie breeds originating from them, but I never guessed that the Golden Rets were Scottish bred as well. It just goes to show how they love their dogs. Cool pictures with the dolphins, BTW! Thanks for sharing your wonderful post! All the best!
ReplyDeleteSherri Briggs @ The Pet Glider
Wow, there are a lot of Collie and Terrier breeds from Scotland. I'm impressed. I see you saved the best for Last :)
ReplyDeleteAngus is a pretend scottie and it makes us pugs rather mad sometimes....we loved your wild dolphins though.

Hi Pippa! Thanks for coming by our bloggy! Mom read the headline about scotties at the ceremony and thought it must be really nice to see them BUT can can the organizer forget to include a doggy like yourself!!!
ReplyDeleteWe added your bloggy to our friends' list. Hope it's ok with you.
Momo & Pinot xo
Dog Dad has had them on the computer for the last few days. We too were very upset that Shelties weren't chosen. After all why not a herding job for a task like this?
ReplyDeleteThe Scotties did such a nice job, but it would have been nice to include a representative of the other breeds as well. Wouldn't it have been so grand if you had been chosen - that would have been pawesome.
ReplyDeleteLove those dolphins - Mom says the grandbipeds got to take rides on the dolphins when they visited the Caymon Islands.
Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Sounds like a lot of fun was had by all except the cheezers. :)
ReplyDeleteHello Pippa, I hope I'm not woofing twice here - I did just enter a comment but seems to have disappeared!!! We missed the opening ceremony of the Games (our TV is still on the boat coming from Japan!) so we loved the photograph above - don't those Scotties look smart???? And we also loved your mention of Westies .......
ReplyDeleteWoof
Groucho
Bowsers, those games sure sound like fun. No collies or shelties being in the games is disappointing.
ReplyDeleteHi Pippa,
ReplyDeletedid you win the dolphin?? I would like it!
